North of Cumuruxatiba is the Cai river, where, on April 23, 1500, Pedro Alvares Cabral crew landed in order to obtain fresh water. They were the first europeans to encounter the Aimorés indians who inhabited this region. A wooden cross stands at the beach to commemorate this event.

Since then, little has changed in Cumuruxatiba. It has become a fishing village and recently an effort has been made to develop and adapt the infrastructure for eco tourism and leisure. A few inns and restaurants have opened that attract tourists in search of a rustic and unspoiled place.

If you want to escape the stress and upbeat tourism of Porto Seguro Cumuruxatiba is a place of choice to find peace and tranquility.

The view of the shore from the sea shows an impressive mix of green vegetation (Mata Matlantica) white sand and pastel coloured cliffs.

The "Praia da Paixão" beach (Passion Beach) is a small cove where the calm and translucent waters lap the white sand. You can drink fresh sodas at cabins situated on the beach.

More remote is the colorful Tauá beach, with its cliffs sculpted by the sea where low tide reveals banks of oysters.

Tororão Beach has soft sand with some rocks and reefs and a small waterfall falling down from the cliffs.

For water sport enthusiasts the beach of Ponta Imbassauba offers excellent conditions for windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and fishing. This deserted beach has many almond and coconut trees offering ideal shade for family picnics.

For those who like to dive, Corumbau Beach, north of Cumuruxatiba, is famous for its coral reefs called Pataxós and Itacolomi. Corumbau is two and a half hours by boat from Cumuruxatiba. The tours usually leave the city at 8:00 am and return at 5:30 pm. The beach itself has coconut trees and mangroves.

Most of these exotic beaches have calm seas, no waves and constant breezes, seducing tourists in search of rejuvenation.

Besides all its natural beauty, Cumuruxatiba host a pier at Praia da Vila, famous for its lenght of 600 meters long, built in the 1970s and now disfunctional.
