Porto Seguro
Porto Seguro is the closest town of importance with an international airport. It has seen a great influx of investments and tourism boom.
The main attractions today are the day and night scenery, the warm weather and protected surroundings as well as the Bahiano way of life with great food, drink, music and dance.
The main monuments are;
- Marco da Posse; A marble monument marking Portugal's possession of Brazil.
- The Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Pena. Built in 1535, this church holds Brazil's first religious statue, of Saint Francis of Assis.
- The Museu do Descobrimento. The museum of the Discovery from the 18th century architecture.
- The Igreja da Misericórdia. Built in 1526.
- The Igreja de São Benedito. Built by the jesuits.
- The ruins of the Colégio dos Jesuítas. A Jesuit school built in 1551.
Eco-trips from Porto Seguro
- The small district of Santo André, 30km north of Porto is the point of departure for a drive to explore the beaches, and villages along the road leading to the historical town of Belmonte on the Cocoa Coast.
- The Parque Ecológico do Santuário preserves 450 hectares of the Atlantic Rainforest and offers trails, a suspension bridge, flying foxes, river swimming, small boat excursions and a pony farm for children.
Arraial d'Ajuda
Discovered by hippies in the seventies, Arraial d'Ajuda became famous and has mutated into an international spot for elegant tourism. Its special atmosphere attracts tourist from various nationalities.
Arraial is very pleasant walking in a casual way along the main street. You will enjoy the well decorated shops and galleries, have the choice of whether purchase a colourful and fashionable bikini, a sophisticated artpiece, or rest in a cool place drinking fruit juice.
