Trancoso is located 30 km south of Porto Seguro in the southern part of Bahia, the largest state of Nordeste (north east of Brazil).   Click here to see map overview.  Click here to see interactive Google Map.   Porto Seguro can be reached by its International Airport (see more about Porto Seguro International Airport).   To travel from Porto Seguro to Trancoso it takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour by bus or car.   There is more than 1 way to get to Trancoso from Porto Seguro. These are the most common:   1) The usual way (middle distance, in blue in the google map here below) is taking the ferry-boat to Arraial D'Ajuda and then a 24km road to Trancoso. It will allow you to enjoy crossing the delta of Rio Buranhem. This is the usual road that most people take when going from Porto Seguro to Trancoso while spending the day on its beaches. The cost of the ferry is little and you will find a bus on the other side of the river. To do so you need to take a Taxi at the airport. It will cost the price of going to town which is not much. Then you have to take the "balsa" (ferry), cross the river with the ferry and take the bus to Arraial Center / Trancoso once you arrive on the other side. You may take your car on the ferry as well.   2) The longest but most straightforward way (in red in the google map here below) is to take the road that goes to Eunápolis from Porto Seguro (80km) and then take, after 33 km, the BA-001 road to Trancoso.   3) A shorter way, if you have a car and it is daylight, is the same as the first one but, instead of taking the asphalt road, you may take the sandy street to Trancoso once you have left Arraial center behind you. Choosing this third solution will allow you to save gasoline and time. You need to get used to driving on sand but the road is quite good especially when dry. We do not advise this solution if you are not yet familiar with Trancoso surroundings.   You may rent a car at the airport, in the center of Porto Seguro or in Trancoso.
